And the winner is…

Advent part­nered with a local uni­ver­sity to hold the first annual Nashville Award for Excel­lence in Logo Design. This event not only served the local design com­mu­nity by bring­ing it together to cel­e­brate great design and best prac­tices; it also helped the uni­ver­sity pro­mote its newly updated graphic design pro­gram before some of Nashville’s top design­ers.

The com­pe­ti­tion was held in con­junc­tion with the university’s guest lec­turer Kim­berly Elam’s pre­sen­ta­tion on “Typo­graphic Sys­tems.” Direct mail, e-mail and grass roots mar­ket­ing were used to attract Nashville’s graphic design­ers. Design­ers sub­mit­ted over 150 entries, sur­pass­ing all expec­ta­tions for the inau­gural event. Design­ers from the event spon­sors judged the com­pe­ti­tion and handed out four awards: one each for best icon design, best use of typog­ra­phy, people’s choice and best over­all design. The first three award win­ners walked away with iPod Nanos and the best over­all design win­ner was awarded a brand new Mac­Book. With prizes like these, who wouldn’t sub­mit an entry?!

The event’s suc­cess yielded a high turnout, vast amounts of net­work­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties, and the university’s objec­tive to present its tar­get mes­sage to a rel­e­vant audi­ence. Par­tic­i­pants and orga­niz­ers left look­ing for­ward to next year’s event.
