No Free Bread

Don’t you just love it when you go to a restaurant and you get a tasty “free” basket of bread brought to your table before your meal?

Well, for those of you new to the trade show industry there is no free “bread” on the trade show floor.  Everything has a price and it’s usually high!  Here are a few tips to remember when you’re headed to a show.

1.  Supply your own power strips and extension cords–these can be very pricey to rent if you forget them.

2.  Ship collateral and give-a-ways to your hotel–if you can carry them in you won’t be charged material handling.

3.  If you are using a local union crew to install/dismantle your booth, have someone from your company there to supervise the labor—supervision fees are usually 30% of your total labor bill.

4.  Most cities will allow you to carry/roll your booth into the hall if you can set it up in less than an hour and use no tools to set it up—BIG SAVINGS-no material handling, no labor costs!

5.  Be careful about sending packages to the show site via FedEx and UPS–most shows will add a “special” material handling charge to your bill if these carriers drop of packages on show site and these carriers will not pick up at the show site when the show is over, so you will have to find a FedEx or UPS store to drop the off at.

So to all you newcomers, sorry there’s no free bread, but if you use these tips you can get your “bread” cheaper!  Eat Up and Good Luck!
