Advent was honored to be featured recently in an article on Washington Times web site as an example of “American business at its best.” In his article in the Communities section, columnist Terry Ponick pointed toward Advent’s practice of honoring our valued clients by underwriting fresh water wells in villages across the world in their name. Ponick celebrated Advent’s now two-year holiday tradition as creative gift-giving at its best, a gift that truly keeps on giving, to Advent, our partners, and most importantly, to the people of Togo and Haiti. Here’s the link to read about this exciting, life-giving partnership:

The Ornament Decorating Competition
The team was offered 5 different clear plastic ornament shape options this year and one week to decorate it. After a vigorous vote by all of our employees we are proud to show you this years entrants & winners that are displayed on the company tree!

In 2011, to honor our clients, we built a clean-water well in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. While the well was dedicated to the people there the site was specifically selected to serve the needs of the children of the Karadé Orphanage.

Water-related diseases are the cause of over 2 million deaths every year. Safe water, a toilet, and clean hands could prevent 90% of these deaths. Today the well in Port-au-Prince is pumping clean water to the children of the orphanage and the people of the community – making a dramatic impact in their lives.

We are pleased to continue to provide updates on the wells and the impact they are having.

Wait… So why are they not shaving???
No-Shave November is a unique way to raise cancer awareness. The goal is to grow awareness by embracing our hair – which many cancer patients lose – and letting it grow wild. Then, donate the money you normally spend on hair removal for a month (or more/less) to cancer research.

Advent’s Involvement:
All employees at Advent will be donating money for the American Cancer Foundation!

BUT that’s not all…
Whatever amount our employees and their friends/family donate, Advent will match!

We’ve been anxiously awaiting confirmation about the clean-water wells being built to honor our clients from 2011. We are thrilled to announce that all seven wells (one in Haiti and six in Togo) are complete!

We’ll be posting many more photos soon and discussing more about how the wells were built, why we chose these countries, the villages each well will serve, and why we believe giving back is an important part of our work at Advent. Here are a couple of pictures to show why this is important.

These are the good people living in the village near a new clean-water well:

This had been one of the main sources of water for the village:

And this is the result of a clean water well built in the village:

We’re proud that we get to work with the Living Water Project, and we can’t wait to show off more of the project and the stories surrounding these wells. Thank you to all our customers who made this happen.

In the fall of 2010, Pepperdine President Andrew Benton confirmed a renewed commitment to athletics at Pepperdine. In the spring of 2011, Pepperdine University AD Steve Potts contacted Advent to begin the process of updating two of the main athletics facilities on campus: Heritage Hall and the Firestone Fieldhouse.

The Waves have an incredible tradition of winning over the years, and the campus is one of the most beautiful in the country. With a little help from Advent, these two spaces have a new look and visualize a new commitment to excellence in university athletics. See what Steve had to say about the project and some of the installation in the video included below.
