Joseph Johnston knows better than most that almost nothing can reverse the current of the river, whether it’s the Mighty Mississippi or Advent’s design workflow. Originally from Vicksburg, Miss., Joseph has the muddy water of the Mississippi River in his veins. His father and grandfather were towboat captains on the Mississippi, and in his younger days, Joseph was a deckhand.
As a production artist for Advent, Joseph is his own kind of towboat captain, ushering Advent’s final production designs to the vendor. He’s already worked on projects with the Dallas Cowboys, the University of Southern California and University of Pittsburgh, but he’s most proud of the final concept-to-design-to-production process for the Tennessee Titans. Joseph earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a graphic design emphasis from Mississippi State University. Before joining Advent, Joseph was a graphic designer at a printing and signage company.
Joseph also has been an active member of the “maker” community in Middle Tennessee. He’s served as art director for Make Nashville, a non-profit focused on providing the community with training, tools and opportunity in any field related to “making.” He has helped to establish the Make Nashville Makerspace, a facility that includes a full graphics lab, woodwork shop, welding facilities, electronics lab and sewing lab.
